CLSC's HISTORY AND DIRECTION

The Christian Language Study Center (CLSC) formerly called the Interchurch Language School was opened on August 1, 1961 by 5 founding mission boards from the mainline Protestant groups- the United Church of Christ in the Philippines, the United Methodist Church, the Southern Baptist Convention, the Philippine Episcopal Mission, and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod- to answer the ethno linguistic needs of their foreign missionaries in the Philippines.

Initially, CLSC offered 3 major Philippine languages namely Tagalog, Cebuano, and Ilokano. English became part of the curriculum in 1972.

In 1981, the school was incorporated as a non-stock, non-profit corporation and registered under the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), then Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). It is likewise accredited by the Commission on Immigration and Deportation (CID).

While the initial groups of students were missionaries, CLSC has expanded its clientele to members of the diplomatic and business communities, and to all men and women of goodwill who desire to understand the Philippine culture better through the language. Our students come from all over the world: Europe, Africa, North and South America, Asia and Australia.

Overseeing the Center is a Board of Trustees whose members serve on a voluntary basis. At the helm is the Executive Director, who is supported by experienced professionals with bachelors’ degrees in education, communication arts, and other related fields. We have instructors who hold masteral degrees in second language teaching. The current Executive Director is Frank G. Flores, Ph. D. (Linguistics).
